Sturko becomes leader of CentreBC after Milobar, other MLAs leave to rejoin BC Conservatives

Peter Milobar and "some" of his fellow now-former CentreBC former BC Conservative MLAs have left their new party to rejoin the one from whence they came.

The move — which CentreBC claimed was "not discussed" with the executive council, came as BC NDP Leader David Eby called a snap election for October 24.

"We are disappointed that Peter Milobar and others did not stand by commitments made to this party, its Executive Council, and its members," CentreBC President Mike Wignall said in a statement. "We all want to remove the NDP government which has caused such harm to our province, but at the end of the day, you also have to stand for something"

He made it clear that CentreBC will continue existing and "remains committed to our foundational values and will not be selling out to divisive politics."

Á'a:líya Warbus, Bruce Banman, Teresa Wat, Rosalyn Bird, Donegal Wilson, and Ian Paton have returned to their old party, while Elenore Sturko, who sat as an Independent for a year before joining, was the lone holdout, arguing her values do not align with the BC Conservatives.

She has since become leader of the party.

"I am proud to be a part of CentreBC and to continue to offer a choice for British Columbians," she said. "Like many people, I have found a political home with CentreBC and I am ready to fight for the people of this province."
