Vancouver by-election called
On Sunday, Prime Minister Mark Carney called the by-election for North Vancouver—Capilano, with residents in the riding being able to have their say on August 31, 2026.
The seat has been vacant since June 18, 2026, when then-Liberal MP and former minister Jonathan Wilkinson resigned from Parliament to be appointed Canada’s Ambassador to the European Union.
Braeden Caley, former Deputy Chief of Staff to Carney and a former advisor to then-Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson, is running for the Liberals.

Commercial lawyer Stephen Curran, who ran against Wilkinson in the last election, is set to run again for the Conservatives.

Environmental scientist Shelley Luce was earlier announced as the candidate for the Green Party.

The NDP has not yet announced its candidate.
The Liberals have held the riding since 2015. In the 2025 election, the Liberals won the riding with just under 60 per cent of the vote.
