Liberals secure majority with trio of by-election victories
It took a trio of by-election victories and a quintet of floor-crossers, but nearly a year after Canadians originally took to the polls, the Liberals have secured a majority government.
Prime Minister Mark Carney will still have to wait until all the results are certified and his new MPs are sworn in before governing with the balance of power.
On Monday, voters in the ridings of Scarborough Southwest, Terrebonne, and University-Rosedale cast their ballots, and by evening it was revealed that the Liberals had swept all three races, electing Doly Begum, Tatiana Auguste, and Danielle Martin, respectively.
This is a time to come together so we can build a Canada strong for all.

"Tonight, voters have placed their trust in our new government's plan," Carney wrote in a statement. "We accept that support with humility, determination and a clear understanding of what this moment demands. This is a time to come together so we can build a Canada strong for all."
He vowed to "work with all parties and solicit all perspectives in Parliament," noting that "the work ahead demands collaboration, partnership, and ambition to deliver at the speed and scale Canadians are counting on."
"We will build a Canada that is not just strong, but good; not just prosperous, but fair; not just for some, most of the time, but for all, all of the time," Carney concluded. "That is the responsibility we have been given by Canadians. We will achieve it together."
The Carney Liberals did not win a majority government through a general election or today's by-elections. Instead, it was won through backroom deals with politicians who betrayed the people who voted for them.

"The Carney Liberals did not win a majority government through a general election or today's by-elections," Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre wrote in a post on X. "Instead, it was won through backroom deals with politicians who betrayed the people who voted for them."
He argued that, "while the Prime Minister spent the year on this cynical power grab, he has doubled the deficit, and given Canada the worst grocery prices and housing costs in the G7."
