Vancouver mayor-elect Pete Fry has endorsed BC Greens leader Emily Lowan.

He made the announcement during a joint press conference in Sidney on Tuesday.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be here with Emily Lowan in her riding to support her campaign," Fry said. "I have to give Emily some of the credit for the success of my campaign, because so many people are inspired by Emily’s vision and what she’s bringing to British Columbians."

He noted that they "share so many of the same values," and that "some of the things Emily's fighting for are things that resonate with folks in Vancouver and really mean a lot to my community."

"BC needs more Emily," Fry declared.

Just a day earlier, Fry appeared in Vancouver alongside BC NDP leader David Eby, leading some to believe he was endorsing him. Eby noted that Fry was only there to "celebrate a united Canada."

When asked, Fry made it clear that "that wasn’t an endorsement of the premier or the BC NDP."

"If the premier calls you and asks you to show up, of course I'm going to show up," he said. "It was a little awkward when that question was asked, but I was very clear that I wasn't going in any capacity as an endorser, but rather as a proud Canadian."

Following the media availability, Fry joined Lowan for some door-knocking in her riding of Saanich North and the Islands — which has been a Green stronghold since 2017.
