WATCH: Vancouver goes football crazy as Canada plays first World Cup match at BC Place
VANCOUVER — The city was awash in red and white as football fans from coast to coast took to the streets to support the Canadian men's national team in their first World Cup game at BC Place.
The squad gave their fans something to cheer about, besting Qatar 6-0.
Festivities kicked off near Science World in the morning as hundreds, if not thousands of Voyageurs congregated on Quebec Street before marching down to the stadium.

Sitka Media caught up with a number of fans, including a pair who'd travelled all the way from Prince Edward Island for the game.
"It means everything," one said of the fact the World Cup is actually being played in Canada. "It's been a dream of mine since I was just a little kid coming here and seeing this."
They had nothing but good things to say about Vancouver, calling the city "beautiful, so clean, so nice."
A pirate from Nova Scotia echoed their sentiments, and predicted that Canada would "make history" in the city's "iconic" stadium.

There were a number of uniquely Canadian attendees, including a quartet of mounties, a guy on roller skates in full hockey gear, and, of course, numerous people holding flags tied to hockey sticks.

As those lucky enough to secure tickets to the match funnelled into BC Place, others were having just as much fun across town at the FIFA FanFest at the PNE. The nearly sold out crowd cheered with jubilation as Canada put up one, then two, then three, then four, then five, then six goals, each tally eliciting a reaction more enthusiastic than the last.
Canada will return to Vancouver on Wednesday June 24 to take on Switzerland.
