WATCH: Findlay denounces NDP handling of wildfires for “negligence and malfeasance.”

With wildfires raging across the province, BC Conservative Leader Kerry Lynne Findlay is denouncing the BC NDP Government’s forest management practices for “negligence and malfeasance.”

Findlay made the comments during an ‘exclusive’ interview with conservative influencer Marc Nixon published on Tuesday, August 4.

“What is our forest management? Where is the sweeping of the forest floor? Where are the controlled burns?” asked Findlay, adding that a BC Conservative Government would commit to forest management and providing firefighting resources.

In speaking to the long running mountain pine beetle infestation, Findlay called the decision to let infected trees simply dry out to become tinder rather than harvest the wood for use as “shameful.”

The BC Conservative Leader suggested that the NDP is too quick to act as though the fires are an inevitable and unavoidable consequence of climate change: “So do they really want to control these, or do they want to be able to say, ‘ah it's climate change, it's the environment. What can we do? Oh dear.’ And then put people's property and lives in danger. That is not moral, frankly.”

Findlay also challenged labelling all the fires as wildfires, stating “one of the things I object to is that they call all the fires wildfires…if lightning strikes and there's a fire, that is truly a wildfire. If an eco-terrorist lights the fire, that's not a wildfire," adding that a fire started accidentally from a backyard barbecue would still be considered a wildfire, albeit one from negligence.
