SURREY — Premier David Eby further fuelled speculation that British Columbians will soon be headed to the polls, saying Wednesday that his caucus is "election ready" and that Cheryl Oates has been tapped to run the campaign.
He was asked multiple times when the writ will drop, but refused to set anything in stone — or explicitly state that it would happen.

"We have continually told Elections BC, I tell my caucus all the time that we need to be election ready," Eby said during a press conference in Surrey, noting that the BC NDP has a one seat majority. "We're election ready as the BC NDP, Elections BC should be election ready, and I see the Conservatives are having a lot of discussions about a lot of their internal work."
He went on to note that he would not be making any announcements "today" about a potential date.

When asked what the "ballot question" would be if British Columbians were to head to the polls in the near future, Eby said, "what is the best direction for our province given the incredible upheaval brought about by the Trump administration."
In an interview with Sitka Media, BC Greens leader Emily Lowan called the election a "distraction" from the BC NDP's record, and urged the premier to "govern with courage" for the remainder of his mandate instead.
