BC Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson is pledging to eliminate the 10% provincial sales tax on Canadian-made beer, wine, and spirits for the duration of the trade war with the United States.
Doerkson announced the commitment Tuesday in Langley, saying the tax cut would lower prices and encourage British Columbians to buy Canadian products as the industry faces pressure from US President Donald Trump’s trade policies.

Doerkson acknowledged the move would cost the province revenue, but said supporting the industry during the trade dispute is worth the loss.
“There will be some losses, no question about that,” he said.
The Conservatives say wineries, breweries and distilleries support more than 20,000 jobs across 70 communities in BC and contribute billions of dollars to the provincial economy.
“Buying BC has never mattered more,” Doerkson said. “My government will make it cheaper and easier for every British Columbian to choose local and stand with British Columbians whose livelihoods depend on our wineries, breweries, and distilleries.”
The pledge is Doerkson’s latest economic commitment of the campaign. On Monday, he unveiled the Conservatives’ “Energy Superpower Plan,” which includes promises to double BC’s LNG production by 2032 and triple it by 2035.
