Statscan: BC employment rises in July

British Columbia saw 17,800 jobs added in July, according to new data from Statistics Canada, with 32,500 full-time positions more than offsetting the loss of 14,700 part-time jobs.

The province’s unemployment rate declined by 0.3 points, to 6.2%. BC’s unemployment rate is slightly lower than Canada’s 6.4%, with province having the fourth lowest rate in the nation.

Vancouver itself saw 13,300 jobs added, with the unemployment rate down 0.5 points to 6%.

For the year, BC has added 2,300 jobs, with 36,200 full-time jobs being added, offsetting 33,800 part-time losses.

Nationally, Canada 75,100 jobs in July, with 38,600 full-time positions and 36,600 part-time. For the year, nationwide employment is up 196,500 jobs.
