Sinking support for faith in NDP housing plans

A new poll from Research Co. shows a decline in faith for the BC Government’s affordable housing plans, with 46 per cent believing the government will be effective – down 8 points from last fall – with those viewing the plan as ineffective rising 6 points to 40 per cent.

Older voters (55+) are less likely to believe in the provincial government’s’ plan, with just 35 per cent viewing it as effective, versus 59 per cent for those age 18-34 and 48 per cent for those age 35-54.  

Condo Bailout Support?

Fully half of respondents said that they have followed the federal government’s plan to convert unsold condos into affordable housing units. Forty-eight percent of British Columbians said they think the plan will be effective, while 39 per cent disagree.

At the same time, 55 per cent think the plan is “bails out developers and banks for their bad bets instead of letting condo prices fall to an affordable level” and 51 per cent say it “wastes taxpayer dollars on artificially propping up developers.”

Instead of using taxpayer money to buy overpriced condos, Carney and Eby should be cutting the taxes, red tape and delays that make it so expensive to build in the first place.

Support for Tax Cuts and 'Foreign Buyer Ban'

Over two-thirds (68%) of British Columbians say they’d like to see the GST removed from the purchase of new homes of up to $1 million.

And as some call for dropping the 'foreign buyer ban' for residential properties, over three-quarters (75%) support maintaining the ban.

Methodology: Results are based on an online survey conducted from July 13 to July 15, 2026, among 801 adults in British Columbia. The data has been statistically weighted according to Canadian census figures for age, gender and region in British Columbia. The margin of error—which measures sample variability—is +/- 3.5 percentage points, nineteen times out of twenty.
