Lorne Doerkson appointed interim leader of BC Conservatives

Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Lorne Doerkson has been appointed interim leader of the BC Conservatives following Kerry-Lynne Findlay's resignation.

He is the fourth person to helm the party since the 2024 election.

"he Conservative Caucus has voted to recommend Lorne Doerkson as Interim Leader," party president Mauro Francis wrote in a statement. "The Party's Board of Directors has accepted the recommendation and passed a motion to appoint Lorne Doerkson as Interim Leader."

Francis thanked him for "stepping forward to serve during this important transition," adding that "further information regarding the transition will be shared in the coming days."

Doerkson, who is travelling at the moment, has not publicly addressed the situation.

Her move marks the culmination of a week of turmoil in the party.

The move came less than 12 hours after Findlay announced her resignation Saturday.

She will still be running for the party in the Abbotsford-Mission byelection, which is scheduled for September 26.
