WATCH: VPD provides update on charges laid against Kal Dosanjh

The Vancouver Police Department has provided an update on the case against now-former officer Kal Dosanjh.

He was charged Thursday with four counts of fraud, four counts of theft over $5,000, and breach of trust by a public officer.

During a press conference on Friday, VPD Chief Constable Steve Rai said the incidents occurred between 2017 and 2025. Nineteen alleged victims have been identified, most of whom were "investors" from the South Asian community, however more are expected to come forward. At least $3 million was involved.

He and other members of the force thanked the South Asian community for their cooperation and assistance during the multi-year investigation.

Rai noted that Dosanjh — who also founded the Surrey-based Kids Play Foundation —was suspended Thursday evening after being released from custody, but that the board has final authority over whether his leave will be paid or unpaid. That process takes around 30 days.

A second man, Sarabjit Singh Gill, has also been charged with three counts of fraud and three counts of theft over $5,000.

Just minutes after the briefing concluded, the Conservative Party of Surrey released a statement informing the public that Dosanjh's wife, Sandy, would no longer be running for city council under their banner.
