COPE mayoral hopeful ends campaign so progressives can 'unite' behind single candidate

COPE mayoral hopeful Stephanie Allen has suspended her campaign in an attempt to avoid splitting the progressive vote.

She urged Vancouverites who share her concerns and values to "unite" around a single candidate, arguing its their best bet to unseat Mayor Ken Sim.

"It has been the privilege of a lifetime to stand as the mayoral candidate for COPE, a party with the deepest history of fighting the power of the super rich and showing up for the poor and working-class people in our city,” Allen said on Wednesday. "While I am announcing the end of my campaign for mayor, I am also here today to recommit to our movement to the fight for the people of this city."

Directing her attention to OneCity and Green Party mayoral candidates, she warned progressives against "put[ting] our egos ahead of doing the right thing for Vancouver."
