BC Conservative Abbotsford-Mission MLA Reann Gasper has stepped down to give party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay the chance to run in a by-election.

Gasper was elected in 2024 after defeating incumbent Pam Alexis.

“This is my decision,” Gasper wrote in a post on X. “No one asked me to make it.”

She said representing Abbotsford-Mission “has been one of the great privileges of my life,” and that she will “always be grateful to the people who put their trust in me, and to the many people who stood beside me along the way.”

“I believe in putting the bigger goal ahead of my own position,” Gasper continued. “We need to defeat the NDP and form government. I believe in Kerry-Lynne. I believe in her leadership, her experience and her ability to represent this community. I support her, and I will do everything I can to help her win this seat.”
