A new poll from Yorkville Strategies surveying 1,016 British Columbians has shown the BC NDP with a lead over the BC Conservatives.
Amongst decided voters, Premier David Eby's party sits at 45.8%, while Kerry-Lynne Findlay's party sits at 39.8%.
Among all voters, the NDP holds a five point lead in Metro Vancouver, while the Conservatives hold a four point advantage in the Fraser Valley. The NDP dominates on Vancouver Island, while the Conservatives do the same in the BC interior and north.
Aside from on Vancouver Island, British Colombians generally view the province as being on the 'wrong track.'
Yet poor "right track" numbers do not appear to be translating into support for the opposition Conservatives. Yorkville pollster Dimitri Pantazopoulos, who previously polled for both for Stephen Harper and Christy Clark, notes that "given the high 'wrong track' numbers, the Conservatives should be dominant" as "angry voters don't normally re-elect incumbents."
Yorkville notes that British Columbians are feeling the financial stress, with significant numbers strongly or somewhat agreeing that "a good quality of life has never been harder to achieve or maintain."
Pantazopoulos concludes noting that the BC Conservatives are not yet seeing a post-leadership polling bounce, and that the BC NDP have in fact regained some ground.
At the same time, a second, different poll from Fairview Strategy shows slightly tighter numbers, albeit with the BC NDP still leading the BC Conservatives, 37 per cent to 34 per cent.
Fairview shows the NDP leading in all regions, except for the interior.
Fairview reports that the NDP leads with those who don't have difficulties paying their monthly bills, with the Conservatives lead with those in more precarious financial situations. The Conservatives also have sizeable leads with voters who currently have children living at home.
